1.How did you and your husband meet?
We actually met at a younger age, right after high school. Nothing happened between us and seven years later in March 2021, we reconnected through Tinder.
2. How did he propose?
The proposal was in our home. I went back from work and heard on the door one of my favorite songs, "Moon River" by Perry Como. As soon as I saw him standing on the door I asked him, "Is this happening now?" he said yes and I immediately ran to put my bag in the bedroom, and ran to the living room. There I saw on the table all sorts of things that I love: a piece of a cake that I really like, my favorite flowers that are very hard to get, a beautiful greeting card of bride and groom that I bought in Japan, a bottle of wine and candles. The ring was designed by a very good friend of my mother, who’s a goldsmith. It turned out exactly as I had hoped—precisely my style. I really loved how it came out.
What are some things you loved about planning your wedding?
I really loved finding my dress and the process of making it perfect for me. It was fun finding my other vendors, such as the photographers, the chef and the DJ. I really enjoyed choosing the dishes for the menu with the chef.
What was the process of finding your dream Chana Marelus dress like?
I had been following Chana Marelus on Instagram for a long time since she had an interview on tv news maybe 5 years ago, and always knew I wanted a dress by her. After my husband proposed to me I knew what would be the first bridal studio I would like to see and I just felt this was it. I came for a different dress I had in mind but after trying on my dress I went home and couldn't stop thinking about it. Then I knew it was the right one and felt really excited just by thinking of it. I felt like the dress can speak for me and I don't need any words.
Working with Chana was incredibly precise. Chana was wonderful from the very first moment and made me feel very comfortable. She was gentle and pleasant, and it was a joy to work with her. I felt that she understood what I wanted to be on that day, what I wanted to show outwardly and what I preferred not to emphasize. Throughout the process, she helped me think about how the overall look would come together—for example, how the headpiece would work with the veil. I felt like we were creating a complete look together that reflected everything I wanted. It was very flattering and truly reflected who I am. I felt feminine, yet delicate, with an artistic statement and had a soft flow, and even something slightly Japanese about it. I really enjoyed the process, and I’m so excited to remember myself in that dress, knowing it was truly mine.
What's your favorite, or most memorable, thing about the wedding?
For me it was the moment we walked down the stairs (from our room upstairs) just as our chuppah song started playing. We descended the stairs, walked down the aisle and entered the chuppah, and it was incredibly emotional. I was worried the whole time about tripping on the stairs, but I managed to stay steady and truly enjoyed the ceremony. I tried hard not to cry, it was really special. I also really enjoyed the photo session and being in the reception with all the guests in this beautiful venue I dreamed of.
We didn’t have a specific theme for the entire wedding, but there were certain elements that had a unique vibe. For example, we decided that the dance party would be a disco party, since we’re not really into the mainstream music that’s popular today. We felt we needed something special that represented us, and since we love oldies from the ‘70s and ‘80s the party reflected that. Everyone had a great time, and it felt suitable for all ages. It was a lot of fun—everyone knew the lyrics, we sang and danced together. At the beginning of the evening, during the reception, the music was more relaxed, featuring old songs that you hardly hear nowadays. I love old music and I worked a lot on the playlist. It was important to me that the entire wedding will have a vintage atmosphere, as if it were taking place in another era—vintage furniture, old songs, and floral arrangements that matched the vibe. It created a certain magic. Our photographer also used film, which gave the photos a unique grain and charm that you don’t get nowadays. Instead of the usual magnetic photo souvenirs, we had a Polaroid photographer, which added a cool effect. Even my bridal headpiece had a vintage feel, reminiscent of styles from the 1920s and felt like taken out from a scene out of an old movie.
